The Bible's 150 Psalms comprise the song and prayer book of the people of God which is held together by one thread - a hunger for God. The Psalms are designed to shape our thoughts and affections as we express our faith in God through the realities of life.

 

The Journey (April 3-24, 2011)

Jesus Christ profoundly altered the course of history, dividing it into B.C. and A.D. All of the Old Testament builds up to and all of the New Testament builds upon that period of human history in which He was crucified and resurrected from the dead.  We will take a journey with Jesus Christ through the gospels, focusing on those history-altering events of His death and resurrection. If we truly behold Him, He will re-write our history too!

How can we be whole and at the same time incomplete? The Book of Colossians answers this paradox with specific Christ-saturated insights that can satisfy our longing for hope and confidence.

James, the half-brother of Jesus Christ, wrote his book sometime between 40-45 AD (the first New Testament book) and just 10-15 years after the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Like an experienced trainer at the gym, James makes us face the truth and takes us through daily workouts to get us in shape spiritually.

Every believer in Christ is a bridge, built by Jesus Christ, to transport His compassion and grace to the world.  To effectively fulfill our mission we need to trust our "master engineer", see ourselves as His bridges, understand why bridge building is necessary, know what good bridges are like, discover the unique bridge God wants each of us to be and join God in His mission.

 

The Great Reversal 

(November 29 - December 20, 2009)

Jesus’ lowly birth signaled the great reversal that He would bring into the world – a peasant baby would make rich kings bow, provoke a powerful monarch to jealously, cause invisible angels to appear and headline unknown shepherds as His well known heralds!

 

Jesus’ short ministry smashed long held assumptions and ushered in the great reversal of values – the first will be last; the proud will be humbled; the humbled will be exalted; the greatest are the servants of all; those who find their lives, lose it; those who lose their lives, find it; sinners are declared righteous;  the righteous are called sinners!

 

In our own lives, Jesus’ arrival is designed to end our journey into destruction and bring about the great reversal into His abundant eternal life!

 

This advent season we will examine four “Great Reversal Stories” from the gospel of Luke. We will find Jesus to be good but not safe – He intends to bring about the great reversal in us!

Imagine having immediate access to the most reliable source of wisdom for every aspect of your life. Consider being able to daily connect with the One in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Think of the inner stability, contagious joy and unstoppable perseverance that will become yours if you acquire wisdom from God. Together we can acquire priceless wisdom for everyday life.

Followers of Jesus Christ are by definition, people of influence. That is why Jesus called us the light of the world and the salt of the earth. And the influence cuts both ways. Only if we are daily having our thinking and behavior shaped by the gospel of Jesus Christ, will our influence honor Christ.

 

(April 19 - June 28, 2009)

Nehemiah was one of the greatest leaders in history because he "aligned himself" with God and His purposes and learned how to help others do the same. His inspired book teaches us how to cooperate with God in His "alignment mission".  Only when we are living in agreement, in line with God and His purposes, do we fulfill our purpose in life!

Though unseen, God longs for us to "see" both His sovereignty and goodness in our daily lives. He invites us to enter into Ruth's short story so that we can discover His good and strong hand in our long story. Even though Ruth's story takes place in a dark time of moral collapse, national disunity and foreign oppression; the light of God's redemption for those who trust Him, shines bright.

According to Jesus, it is not the example of the religious who teach us how to pray but rather that of children relating to their good Dad. With 65 brief words, Jesus forms a mold and invites us to pour our hearts into it whenever we pour our hearts out to our heavenly Father.

(October 2008 - January 2009)

Think of getting in shape spiritually and building a solid foundation for your faith.  We will explore eleven foundational doctrines of the faith; the Bible, God, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, Man, Sin, Salvation, Angels, Satan and Demons, Church and Prophecy. Make the commitment to feed your faith and grow strong in the Lord!

None of us can escape criticism, pain, and disappointment, but all of us can learn to experience Christ through them.

God longs for our journey together through 2 Corinthians to turn us into people who, "do not trust in themselves, but in God who raises the dead." (2 Corinthians 1:9).

 

(February 6 - March 23, 2008)

Augustine said, "There can be only two basic loves,  the love of God unto forgetfulness of self, or the love of self unto the forgetfulness of God." Jesus came to infuse us with the first and set us free from the second by being the center of our lives. Join us as we journey with Jesus from His arrest to the empty tomb. We will study John's gospel and pray that His purpose is fulfilled: "these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that believing you may have life in His name." 

 

(January 6 - February 3, 2008)

 

The new year often compels people to make fresh starts . . . but the majority fall back into the same old rut. The root of the problem is what we believe about ourselves and God . . . because belief is the mother of all behavior.  That is why we need to go beyond resolutions to a paradigm shift . . . a fundamental change in what we believe.  Jesus is the ultimate paradigm shifter.
