To love God and people above all else

The greater DC area is blessed to have people from numerous people groups around the world living in it, including professionals, diplomats, immigrants, refugees and international students. Cherrydale provides the following specialized ministries to serve internationals.

International Friendship Partners

Here in Washington, DC, the world is at our doorstep.  Students from dozens of countries come to George Washington University to study.  Most students have a desire to explore and understand Americans and American culture but will never have the opportunity because no one will reach out and invite them in.  Many students have a perception about the United States as a “Christian” country, but will never meet a real Christian.

The friendship partner program seeks to reach out to international students by matching interested students up with individuals, couples or families from Cherrydale.  Being a friendship partner is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain an understanding of our culture while also seeing the love of Christ in action.

Friendship partners share a meal, share hobbies, and share experiences during a one year commitment.  Help these students gain an authentic understanding of our culture, while showing the love of Christ.   Friendship partners are asked to get together with their students once a month and reach out to them by email or phone a few times a month.

Hosting an International High School Student

Do you have a heart for overseas missions but are unable to go overseas due to having a family?  Not to fear, there are still ways to get your families involved with overseas service without going overseas!  Hosting an international exchange student is a fantastic way of exposing both you and your family to another culture.  You can even choose which part of the world to host a student from!  For example, you could host a student from Azerbaijan or Turkey and learn more about our Focus for Four people group, the Azerbaijani.  Interested? Check out their website and get info from programs that participate with your state.
