In our adherence to James 1:27, the Cherrydale Baptist Church orphan care ministry offers "God's Heart for Orphans" classes that explore the Scriptural and historical basis for the role of the church in caring for the orphan. We also sponsor short-term orphan care trips, and as a member of the Christian Alliance for Orphans We celebrate the November 9 Orphan Sunday each year, and seek to help Cherrydale connect with the needs of orphans worldwide.

 

Each May we host a Foster Care prayer vigil to lift up to God the needs of foster children, foster parents and foster care workers. We also offer an Adoptive and Foster Care Support group that meets monthly to share ideas, best practices and prayer support to families who are involved with adoption or foster care. In the future, we plan to exhibit a "Heart Gallery" that will allow Cherrydale families to learn more about children available for adoption in the foster system in the state of Virginia. We also encourage Cherrydale families to get involved in short and long-term foster care.

 

Each November we celebrate national adoption month. We host luncheons to celebrate adoption and seek to bring awareness of the beauty of adoption to the entire church body. We praise the Lord for the many adoptions have already taken place here at Cherrydale. As a ministry we believe that the ultimate solution for the orphan is a loving, Christ-centered family. Our Adoptive and Foster Care Support group comes alongside families to support them as they go through the process of adoption. In 2012, we will be hosting a full-day adoption information seminar.
