About UsMeet Our StaffSteve King, Senior Pastor Pastor Steve King has been serving as the Senior Pastor at Cherrydale since October 2 of 1983. Entering his third decade of ministry, the challenges and opportunities are as inspiring to him today as they were more than 30 years ago. Pastor King has watched God accomplish marvelous things in the lives of His people, and under his leadership at Cherrydale, the church family reaches out to all areas of the Northern Virginia/Metropolitan DC region and throughout the world.Pastor King loves people and communicates biblical truths with an extraordinary balance of truth and love. God has used Pastor King and the leadership of Cherrydale to embrace a vision to “spread a passion to love God and people above all else.” Through his weekly sermons, his compassionate counseling, and visionary leadership skills, the congregation of Cherrydale pictures a bright future as they move forward in this new millennium to reach the lost and broken community in their midst.
Wally Birdseye, Adult Ministries DirectorWally came to know Christ through the children’s “Back to the Bible” radio broadcast at the age of 5. He attended Cherrydale Baptist Church his entire life and participated in leading many ministries throughout those years. Marilyn and Wally have three children and 5 grandchildren. Wally’s desire is to see people connected with God through both our Sunday Classes and Small Group ministries. Acts 2: 42 says, “And the church continually devoted itself to teaching, fellowship, and prayer…”
Tracy Duncan, Community Outreach Director Growing up in a Christian home, Tracy was exposed to Christ as a child, but never fully embraced the decision until her sophomore year in college. In 1995, while attending a Christmas Conference with Campus Crusade for Christ, Tracy made the choice to follow Christ’s ways through the power of the Holy Spirit and not through her own effort. Tracy received her B.S. in Sociology from Kent State University in Ohio. She also has a MAR (Master of Arts in Religion) from Trinity International University. Tracy and her husband Chris were married in March 2006.Bob Glahn, Executive Pastor/Small Groups PastorPastor Bob grew up in Falls Church and was led to faith in Christ by a classmate in High School. Bob served with the missions program since he joined the Cherrydale staff in 1988. His responsibilities now include overseeing staff and church operations. Bob loves boating and camping. His prayer is Psalm 67, that those of every nation may praise the God of their salvation.
Ed Grudier, Global Missions PastorEd grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and came to faith when he was 18 years old. Shortly after getting married, God began to work in the hearts of both Ed and Kathy, instilling a deep desire to see the nations reached with the good news of salvation. They served for 14 years in cross-cultural ministry, most of the time in Turkey, along with their two children Philip and Amy. Ed's ministry focus at Cherrydale is to help those who are Knowing and Growing to find practical ministry outlets to Go and share the good news, particularly to those who have never had a chance to hear.
Ed jogs, mostly because he is middle-aged, but he loves to play basketball, play board games with his wife and children, and eat mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Ashleigh Hall, Student Ministry AssistantAshleigh came to faith at a young age and has attended Cherrydale Baptist Church since birth. Her faith steadily deepened throughout her time in the CBC Junior and Senior High ministries, particularly towards the end of high school. When she left home to attend James Madison University in 2003, she became involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship on her campus and was greatly challenged to grow in her desire for the Gospel to be made real and lived out in her life. Shortly after graduating from JMU with a B.S.W. (Bachelor of Social Work) and minor in Spanish in May 2007, she felt called to return to the very Student Ministry that she grew up in and is excited to now be able to work with the students! She resides in Fairfax with her parents.
John Lamkin, Young Adults Creative Arts DirectorBorn and raised in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area, John accepted Jesus into his heart in 1998. Through a love for music, he found playing Christian songs to be a powerful way to develop intimacy with God in his “quiet times.” The worship experiences became so deep and fulfilling spiritually, he decided to share his passion with others in hopes that they would encounter the Lord in a profound way.
John lives in Arlington and has a heart for the people of this community. His primary desire in ministry is to see people come fully alive in Christ.
Steve Lewis, Young Adults DirectorSteve trusted in Jesus to be his Lord and Savior at an early age, and since then has been continually learning what it means to follow Him. With his life, Steve wants to know and love God, experience His best, and to be used by Him to help other people do the same—for God’s glory!
He graduated from Cedarville University with a B.A. in Organizational Communications. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity degree at Capital Bible Seminary. Steve and his wife Amy were married in August of 2006.
Kendall Lord, Worship PastorSince his teens, Kendall has served in churches from several widely diverse denominations. As Cherrydale’s Worship Pastor, he brings that considerable experience to his ministry here. An accomplished keyboardist, Kendall oversees all of our worship-related ministries. Aware of our tendency to focus on “what we like” in worship, Kendall reminds us that worship is not about what delights us, but rather what delights the heart of God.
