To love God and people above all else

"So you, too, must show love to foreigners"
Deuteronomy 10:19a

Here in the greater DC area, the world is at our doorstep. We are blessed to have many people from all over the world living here, including professionals, diplomats, immigrants, refugees, and international students. As believers, we are urged to show love to foreigners (Deut 10:19a). Many of the internationals who come here have not been exposed to the gospel and often have never even met a Christian. By reaching out to internationals relationally, we have the opportunity to share the Gospel of Christ with them. Many of the internationals who visit here, ultimately plan to return to their country of origin. Reaching internationals for Christ is one way we can answer Jesus’ call to be His witnesses locally, regionally, and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8) for many may take the message of the gospel home with them.

Cherrydale offers the following specialized ministries to serve, reach out to, and build relationships with internationals. If you would like learn more about getting involved in ministry to internationals, but aren’t sure where to start, please contact our Missions and Outreach Pastor, Ed Grudier, at egrudier@cherrydale.org to discuss further.

International Friendship Partners

Students from dozens of countries come to George Washington University to study.  Most students have a desire to explore and understand Americans and American culture but will never have the opportunity because no one will reach out to them.  Many students have a perception about the United States as a “Christian” country, but many will have never meet a real Christian.

The friendship partner program seeks to reach out to international students by matching interested students up with individuals, couples or families from Cherrydale.  Being a friendship partner is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain an understanding of our culture while also seeing the love of Christ in action.

Friendship partners can share a meal, share hobbies/interests, and share experiences during a one year commitment.  Help these students gain an authentic understanding of our culture, while showing the love of Christ.   Friendship partners are asked to get together with their students once a month and reach out to them by email or phone a few times a month. In addition, the Friendship Partner Coordinator may arrange special events, providing more opportunities to connect with your partners.

Please contact our Missions and Outreach Intern at moi@cherrydale.org for more information. You may also download the Friendship Partners Training Manual for an overview of what the ministry involves.
