Face some hard and hopeful realities.
Hard realities: You are not God, death is sure, judgment is coming, and you cannot find lasting satisfaction in the gifts of this life.
Hopeful realities: Your creator is good, just, and in control. The two fixed points in your life—your death and the judgment to follow—can give you hope when filtered through the work of Jesus on our behalf. In Christ you get a win-win; we can joyfully labor with Him while we live and delight in Him forever when we die.
I am excited about facing the hard and hopeful realities of life together as we begin our new series on September 9: The Quest—discovering the key to life from Ecclesiastes.
Some have called Ecclesiastes the Bible’s black sheep and have wondered why it is included in Scripture. They point to the repeated theme of vanity and statements that seem to contradict orthodox faith.
Yet, the message of Ecclesiastes, when properly understood, is a treasure chest of rock-solid hope that enables us to face the ugly realities of life with confidence and conviction. The author aims to persuade us to live a God-centered life and we will discover how this book points us to Jesus Christ.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
