Talk Title: Holy Love in Unexpected Places (Genesis 16:7-16)

Description: Ashley Volk shared from Genesis 16 the story of Hagar, who experiences deep trauma amidst unexpected mothering. God meets Hagar in the wilderness in a profound way. As Ashley unpacks this experience for Hagar, we see that “attachment,” a psychological term, is actually representative of the holy love of God and is a road map back to Him in all seasons. As Hagar lifts her eyes to God, she realizes she is truly seen and entirely loved.

Ashley Volk has been married for 13 years and has three beautiful daughters. She is currently finishing a master’s degree in Theological Studies and leads a ministry at Crosspoint Church that is called Story Groups. Ashley is passionate about the integration of psychology and theology and the way that the image of God is magnified in both. When she is not writing papers, mentoring, or leading Story Groups, she loves to spend her time playing games with her family and church small group members.
