WAYS TO SERVE
Prayer
God is sending us into some of the hardest places in the world to make disciples and multiply churches. Ephesians 6:12 says, our battle is not against flesh and blood but again “spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.. Prayer is one of the best ways we can support missionaries and the great commission.
Join us in praying for a Cherrydale overseas worker each day. We include their prayer requests in our weekly Connections email (click on the “Weekly Prayer Prompter.”) Or for questions, contact D. Young.
Hospitality & Care
There’s a lot that our Hospitality & Care team can do to serve and bless our overseas workers while they are visiting Arlington, including:
- Inviting the worker/the worker’s family to stay with you in your home for a few days or a week while they are visiting us
- Greeting the workers when they arrive and providing rides for them to and from the airport
- Hosting meals with your family and the worker/the worker’s family
There are varying ways to serve on the hospitality and care team. To sign-up to serve, or for questions, contact Yvonne Reed.
Service
Events like Breakfast and Missions, Missions Conference, and opportunities to hear from and pray with our overseas workers equip our congregation, foster a culture of missions in our church, and encourage our workers. We could do more of these types of events with more volunteers!
Typically, a volunteer on the service team will serve a three-hour shift, two to four times per year. Typical time slots to serve include Sunday mornings (8:00 am-10:45 am), or Sunday afternoons (12 pm-3:00 pm), or Wednesday evenings (6:00-9:00 pm). There are varying levels of time commitment and serving slots for you to choose from. To sign-up to serve, or for questions, contact Yvonne Reed.
Short-Term Mission Trips
We have great opportunities for you to serve for one to two weeks alongside long-term missionaries on the mission field. For more information, visit our Short Term Missions Trips page.
Long-Term Missions Work
We are eager to help you consider what your role might be in the Great Commission. For those who would like to be sent to the mission field, we help with exploring global missions, discerning a call to go, assessment for readiness, training and preparation, identifying an agency, team, and location, and sending you to the field.
Giving
Our Mission’s Fund is devoted to spreading the gospel, making disciples, and multiplying churches among all nations, especially unreached people groups. Quick stats include:
- Approximately 25 percent of our church budget goes to our Missions Fund.
- The majority of our Missions Fund goes to overseas workers.
- The majority of our funding for overseas workers goes to those serving among unreached people groups.
- We typically support approximately 30 missionaries.
- In 2024 and beyond, we aspire to focus most of our funding to overseas workers who are focused on the “missionary task” (evangelism, discipleship, church formation, and leadership development).
- We also support mercy ministries (for urgent physical needs) especially when a uniquely critical need occurs in a place where we have missionaries.
