Training

Training for Everyone

Every Christian should understand God’s plan to glorify Himself among all nations. Additionally, it can be very helpful to develop a basic understanding of global missions because every Christian will either be sent as a missionary or help send missionaries.

To make it easy, we provide our Introduction to Global Missions Class online and free of charge, including the downloadable workbook. (Class materials coming soon!)

Training for Missionaries

The statistics about spiritual casualties on the mission field are alarming. But we’ve seen some very encouraging correlations between thriving missionaries and great training. So, we’re glad to invest in great training and preparation for them.

Parts of our missions training program are tailored to you, but the basic pieces include:

1. Church Membership

God intends for discipleship to happen primarily in a local church. To be an effective missionary, we don’t need to be a perfect disciple of Jesus but we do need to be a devoted disciple of Jesus in a healthy relationship with our local church. Learn more about Cherrydale membership.

2. Learning & Teaching

We watch videos, read books, write papers, and process it all together in a supportive and collaborative cohort. We also place an emphasis on sharpening our communication skills and growing together by teaching each other and providing constructive feedback. Topics include missionary biographies, theology of missions, and cross-cultural communication, relationships, and ministry.

3. Personal Evangelism

We help you to do outreach and evangelism within your spheres of influence and to connect with cross-cultural communities to expand your spheres of influence.

4. Residency

You can serve among long-term missionaries in a variety of settings, ranging from eight weeks to two years. A residency is somewhat tailored to you, around your curiosities, giftings, and capacity. You’ll do some more pre-work with the residencies, but it’s well worth the investment of your time!

We work with you to choose from a few locations/experiences:

Residency: Lesser Reached Areas
Serve in the United Arab Emirates, Japan, London, and eastern Europe doing outreach, evangelism, discipleship, and church planting and church strengthening, alongside church planting teams.

Residency: Unreached People Groups
Serve in the middle east and Asia doing outreach and church strengthening alongside church planting teams.

Residency: Unengaged, Unreached Language Groups
In the middle east and Asia, you will spend time with church planting teams who live and minister in those locations, who are creating an alphabet, documenting the language, teaching literacy, translating the Bible, and doing evangelism, discipleship, church formation, and leadership development. Due to the years of training and preparation needed to serve in these locations, this is more like a vision trip for you than a serving trip.

Residency: Mercy Ministry and Outreach
Serve in a rural under-resourced part of Kenya in the mountains serving orphans, teaching students (K-12 school), and/or providing basic medical care. There are also plenty of evangelism and discipleship opportunities here. You are also invited to do literature distribution in the capital city Nairobi in partnership with a local church. There may also be an opportunity to serve alongside church planters in Ukraine and Poland.

Residency: City Impact
Serve in Washington, DC (and Arlington, VA) doing outreach and evangelism. Choose to explore work in some ministries including kids, students, young adults, homeless, refugees, after school mentoring, ESL, special needs, business as mission, and pregnancy centers.
