Sojourning Embassy of the Eternal Kingdom – 1 Peter 2:11-12
Scripture
11 Beloved, I urge you as foreigners and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts, which wage war against the soul. 12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God on the day of visitation.
Description
Like an embassy representing its country in a foreign nation, Christians are to seek to reflect Christ’s kingdom to the world around us. To do this well, we must remember that we are alien and strangers – this world is not our home. But we’re headed home, to an eternal city where righteousness dwells. As we sojourn, we are to abstain from the desires of the world and display the beauty of our eternal kingdom. As we do so, do not be surprised when the world rejects or slanders us as the “sojourning embassy”, but pray that God would draw others into His kingdom as they observe your life and one day glorify Him.
