Cherrydale’s short-term mission trips typically involve sending a team for a week or two to the mission field to serve people or to help with a project. When planning a short-term trip, we have three aims:

1. We strive for our short-term mission trips to beconnected to long-term mission work.

Long-term workers know much more than we do about how to be helpful to the locals. Additionally, disciples are not made overnight;it takes time, usually years. There is only so much we can do in one week. So, one of the first questions we ask our long-term missionaries is, “What would be helpful to you and your ministry? Is there anything we can do that would help you to complete the missionary task?”

2. We strive to attach our short-term mission trips to long-term workers who are doing the missionary task.

Why? Because that is the Great Commission — to make disciples among all nations. God gives us a description of what He wants us to do regarding making disciples and multiplying churches. That is not our only task, but it is our primary task. 

3. We aim for short-term mission trips to be great experiences for the people who go on the trips.

God is also doing something in their lives through the short-term-mission trip! In fact, we work really hard to put together awesome, unforgettable short-term mission trips for those of you who go on them.

VBS in Japan

Cherrydale has great opportunities to do short-term missions in Shimonoseki, Japan by coming alongside our local overseas workers and providing Vacation Bible School and gospel outreach among an unreached people group. Our team teaches kids about Jesus in English and do songs, crafts, and games. It is a rare and great opportunity to do candid gospel ministry among an unreached people group (Japan’s population is approx. 0.57% evangelical Christians).
