This has been a wonderfully full week and tomorrow we will be on our way to Texas in order to attend the Christian Alliance for Orphans Summit. If you have never attended and desire to serve children/families who have been impacted by foster care or adoption or perhaps are interested in ministries that serve internationally – you should REALLY check it out!
So we will be leaving tomorrow, which means that we will be missing a Sunday so today Lee informed Gabriel and Ismael (the boys’ friends who join us each week) that we would not be able to pick them up.
In my mind, I thought they would likely be disappointed that they couldn’t go, but they responded in a way that left me in awe.
“That’s ok,” Gabriel explained. “I live close enough to walk!”
“Yeah,” added Ismael. “I can ask to use a bike and we can go still go to church on Sunday.”
Here I was assuming that they were dependent on us to go to church when the whole time the church was becoming theirs. They don’t need us to be there with them. They aren’t depending on us to drive them – they want to go whether we are there or not.
I have never felt so thankful to not be needed!
