Do you have a clear understanding of what we, as believers in Christ, will do in heaven? Knowing what the Bible reveals about our eternal home will both encourage and motivate you to lay up treasures there.
Worship
We will worship God, as we see His majestic glory. His beauty and holiness will be overwhelming and thus we will need new resurrection bodies to handle it! Job declared that after death he would see God (Job 19:26-27). David believed he would awaken from death to see God (Psalm 17:15). Jesus promised that the pure in heart would see God (Matthew 5:8). John the apostle wrote in the book of Revelation that after death God’s bond-servants will see His face (Rev 22:3-4).
Instruction
In heaven, God will allow us to know fully what had been hidden from us. 1 Corinthians 13:12 declares that we will know [God and His wonders] fully as God has fully known us. In addition, we will comprehend (with our new resurrection minds) amazing wonders and be overwhelmed by the love of God and His fullness (Ephesians 2:17; 3:18-19).
Fellowship
God designed us to enjoy relationships, and thus commanded us to love God and people above all else (Matt 22; 37-40). In heaven, we will perfectly fulfill these commands. Can you imagine fellowship with people who do not have a sin nature? Can you imagine eating, enjoying a new heavenly home, and satisfying relationships with people who are full of joy and their best selves are always present? (John 14:1-3; 2 Cor 5:8; Phil 1:21-23; Heb 12:23; Acts 7:55-59; Matt 26:29).
Service
Work and service were not part of the curse of sin but were built into our design (Genesis 1-2). In heaven we will serve the Lord in a unique capacity that will glorify God and satisfy us. (Matt 19:28; Rev 3:21; 5:10; 20:6; 22:3).
Heaven will be full of delight, adventure, wonder, and pleasure. Knowing what is coming and feeding our hope on it can push us through many quitting points (Heb 11). Jesus spoke much about rewards to motivate us toward godliness (Matt 6:1-18) and urged us to lay up treasures in heaven (Matt 6:19-21). I want to encourage you to expand your knowledge of heaven and what we will be doing there in the presence of our awesome God.
